The Pictish Trail 'The Summer is Empty of Idiots' EP
As most of you know, The Pictish Trail is the pseudonym of Johnny Lynch. As well as his work as the Pictish Trail, he co-runs Fence Records with King Creosote and is one half of Silver Columns with Adem Ilhan.
The excellently titled 'The Summer is Empty of Idiots' is a brief but fascinating effort, that bodes well for the forthcoming album later this year. Lead track 'Michael Rocket' is a swimmy, reverb-heavy piece of dream-pop, the video for which features a little cameo from Kenny Anderson himself.
The other tracks were recorded in a caravan on the island of Eigg, Pictish's current home. 'Not to Be' has a similar wooziness to the lead track, whilst 'What's the Big Idea' is more of an uptempo stomp. 'Imperfect Time' is a lovely closing track, just 30 seconds long, perhaps a sketch of a longer piece to come, just voice and electronics. For those who are keen to investigate further, here is the 'Michael Rocket' video.
