07.07.07 was the day that Boredoms created their piece for 77 drummers playing for 77 minutes in a park in NYC. In a bizarre flipside to this I spent 07.07.07 at the All-Ireland Pipe band Championships in Newcastle, Co Down (yes, I was being paid!). There were far more than 77 drummers at that I can tell you.
Bizarrely, although I obviously missed the Boredoms event I feel like I've experienced a lot of it through the internet. Apparently their will be a DVD of the event but for now we have the 77boadrum Flickr pool and a lot of Youtube footage. Sometimes people filming gigs that I'm at annoys me, but this footage made my day. Apart from the 77 drummers, highlights are DJ Eye's trident (!) and that guitar fence set-up. Like I said, roll on the DVD.
