video: Black Pus

I was always led to believe that Lightning Bolt drummer Brian Chippendale's "other" project, Black Pus, was mostly an avant-garde, free jazz thing that only released material on limited CD-R runs. It seems this was the case until recently, but Black Pus is ready to release a full length album 'All My Relations' on Thrill Jockey next month (March 18th to be precise).

It is still wild and noisy as you might expect, but Black Pus flirts with pop music more than Lightning Bolt ever did, and the vocals are slightly more audible - a fact which diehard LB fans might consider as sacreligious as playing on a stage instead of the floor, or something.

The first track to emerge from the album is '1000 Years', and Brian has created a video for it from some old flip-book animations. He says, ""The flip books were drawn probably in 4th or 5th grade. There are nearly 1000 pages. The cover of the books usually said "adventurer" on them. Me and friends at the time all drew flip books. I remember sitting on the back porch of my house working on them".
